How To Avoid Getting Covid-19

Thanks to a patient for sending me this post by Dr. David Price of emergency medicine in NYC.  He gives empowering advice of things you can do to avoid getting Coronavirus 2019.

#1: Wash your hands/sanitize your hands frequently and anytime you touch things outside your home (granted no one in your home has coronavirus).
#2: Don’t touch your face.
#3: Keep a 3-6 ft distance away from people who may cough or sneeze on you.
#4 For those working on the frontlines, he recommends using a simple surgical mask for room visits where there is no aerosolization of bodily fluids and higher protective gear for procedures that aerosolize bodily fluids. He suggests people in the community to wear a simple surgical mask so they learn to not touch their faces. However, the CDC currently suggests people in the community to wear masks to catch body fluids from going in the air when people speak, cough, or sneeze–they have shown this to be true in their studies.

It can be as simple as that.  Yet, #2 probably is the hardest to accomplish.  He suggests wearing a mask to train yourself to not touch your face.  It really comes down to developing the habit of not touching your face, and now is the time to start practicing, what should become, this life long habit.  While he doesn’t state this, this rule includes washing your hands thoroughly before eating, especially before eating finger food.  And, don’t eat finger food while you’re touching other things (like your steering wheel, computer, the book you’re reading, remote control, etc).
