Mercury-Free Dentistry

Amalgams fillings, those silver looking fillings in teeth, let off small amounts of mercury when you chew on them.  When they get old and start to corrode, they start to let off even more.

When getting fillings, ask for mercury-free fillings, such as composite or porcelain fillings.  And, when you’re going to get the amalgam fillings taken out of your teeth, get them taken out safely so the mercury isn’t deposited back into your system in the process of removal.  A dentist who takes them out safely will provide you a mask with oxygenated air to breathe (so you’re not breathing the mercury vapors) and use a dental dam (so no debris falls back into your body).  They also use oxygenated air themselves and have a good air filtration system in their office.
