What is an ND?

Washington state, among many other states, licenses naturopathic physicians as primary care physicians.  A naturopathic medical degree requires 4 years of medical science education and board examination.  We are trained and examined in basic sciences, clinical sciences, diagnostics, and therapeutics, and we’re licensed to dispense, prescribe, and use manual manipulation, minor office procedures and common diagnostic procedures, immunization, vitamins, minerals, botanical medicine, homeopathic medicine, hormones, and certain pharmaceutical medicine.

Naturopathic medicine has incorporated many different medical, health, and healing diagnostics and techniques to create an alternative to the standard medical system.  It often encompasses a patient-centered philosophy and freedom from dependence of ongoing medical intervention.  It is a growing profession, and through consumer demand it has become a well established medical service in licensed states.
